I remember when I first registered to this forum I thought that Steve-O looked awfully similar to Chad[or maybe abit like Petrucci with short hair]
*reminds himself he needs sum ice bells, preferably not Paiste*
Yeah, he's toured w Boz quite a bit...maybe each's playing is rubbing off on the other.
I agree; they could've had a much better clip of his playing...that's just an OOC [out-of-context] snippet...but nevertheless, he's proven himself to be a great drummer...Zappa AND Holdsworth [awa many others] on his resume...his recordings w Allan alone make the grade.

Wackerman is THE consumate drummer. ANY drummer worth his or her salt simply must "learn" Water on the Brain, Pt. 2, esp. on "All Night Wrong". His patterns within the 4/4 meter are incredible and elusive. Best that I can surmise without the chart is that he is running 6/8's and 6/4's over the 8/8 or metro fast 4/4. If one thinks while playing, contriving 6/8 patterns and such, or even 5/8 patterns contrapuntally, it begins to make sense. Anybody out there who has seen the actual chart for this baby let me know--or who has spoken with Chad and probed his mind.
Thanks,

Speaking of Bozzio, what happened to our Registered HOD named Bozzio? I miss that catchy babe signature.
Haha speaking of Zappa i just watched a Munich concert, where Franks Bodyguard gets interviewed, and the interviewer asks who's the craziest in theband. he replies somewhat like this: "I've been with Zappa for like 7 different bands, and i've never seen a crazy person like the drummer ( Vinnie ), he takes his drumsticks everywhere and plays on everything, from the lobby in the hotel to the most anoying thing in elevators. Him and Zappa are allways the last ones to check out of the hotel, they're a hell to take care of." he tells alot about Vinnie actually.
It's from 78, and it's hard to see it's Vinnie, he's all covered up in facial beard and long hair He can't hide from the playing though, that's deffinitely Vinnie.
About that clip of Chad at the Montreal Drum Fest, here is the link shown below. As for the sound, don't forget that the video was taken by Marco Soccoli at Vic Firth, with his home video-cam. The sound is as good as it gets with a home-video.
But, in the hall, both Chad and Terry sounded great !

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Will C's time is very edgy on a lot of the Colour stuff...esp the live recordgs - he rushes a lot. But that's one of the things that I actually LIKED about it - raw, unbridled testosterone, which lent to the Colour's edgy RnR. WC slammed in clinic [late 80s], & his fave drummer is Elvin...so, I'll cut him some slack. Funny that SS said this about him, as he himself had similar qualities in his own plag ATT. Clintuplet
Actually from what I remember about that (it was the same article in which Smith stated that Will Calhoun's feel was "suspect" on the first Living Colour album.) OUCH!!!
I would definitely second your suggestions about his solo work. For that matter, his work with Holdsworth is pretty outstanding. Very nice stuff.
I have an Allan Holdsworth guitar book where Allan briefly talks about Chad and Jeff Berlin not getting along with each other. Have you guys heard anything about this?
Derek DeFields
Isn't that the same issue where they played him Bill Stewart and he said, "definitely a black guy."

...Smith said the time was suspect...it didn't have the "perfectness" that he'd heard from white drummers. I'd take that complimen
From what i understand, JB's attitude can be...well, let's just say, a little demanding to be around for long periods of time. It's his nature - he's an outstanding eclectic bassist/musician. IOWs, ego factors. You might even say he can be a downright strict jazz/swing officiando. No slam to JB. He's a GREAT plauyer. I've always respected his playing, NO DOUBT.
"...said it didn't have the "perfectness" that he'd heard from white drummers"...again, truly funny, coming from SS... ...but I liked it then, too.
That Chad clip doesn't do him the justice he deserves at all, IMHO.
